Key for the further integration of the Roma are education, housing, the municipal infrastructure, and employment, Mimica said, adding that assistance from European Union funds was expected for education programmes and that the government would co-finance education projects.
Mimica was accompanied by the Roma minority's member of parliament, Veljko Kajtazi, and the head of the government's office for national minorities, Branko Socanec. They announced a new national strategy for Roma inclusion which will incorporate EU directives.
Kajtazi said the strategy rested on two-way communication and that in it, the Roma were not an object but the subject in the solving of their problems.
