Three county prefects join in criticism of Croatia's two-region model

ZAGREB, Aug 29 (Hina) - Representatives of the Croatian Union of Counties (HZZ) on Wednesday expressed dissatisfaction with the the fact that a new administrative make-up of Croatia into two statistical regions was first presented to the media without any prior discussion in Croatia.

Vukovar-Srijem County Prefect Bozo Galic, who is the HZZ chairman, Slavonski Brod-Posavina County Prefect Danijel Marusic and Dubrovnik-Neretva County Prefect Nikola Dobroslavic today criticised the two-region model, which was presented earlier in the day by Deputy Prime Minister Branko Grcic,

Marusic believes that the new territorial organisation and the new legislation on agricultural land would also mean less money for the agricultural sector in all counties.

He said that his county would thus lose some three million kuna or, for instance, Vukovar-Srijem County would lose 7-8 million kuna, which, he said would not lead to their development.

The three prefects said that the model with the two regions would not be good for Slavonia.
