Parliament to begin autumn session on Sept 18

ZAGREB, Sept 10 (Hina) - The Croatian parliament will begin its autumn session on September 18 with an agenda of almost 70 items, Acting Speaker Josip Leko said on Monday after a session of parliament's Presidency.

He highlighted bills on fiscal contributions and temporary and permanent residence, a health care strategy, and items on future relations in companies.

Leko said the ratification of a border agreement with Bosnia and Herzegovina had not been moved but that he expected it. Asked about his opinion of it, he said "it ties in with the Badinter Commission and the borders as they were when the former (Yugoslavia) broke up."

Asked if the agreement should be ratified now, after 12 years, Leko said "things should be solved," but added that "those who object that the agreement isn't good should say why they didn't launch political actions to change the agreement if it's not good and regulate relations as they thought was good."

Commenting on the government's announcements of the monetization of motorways and the privatisation of some state-owned companies, Leko said he expected parliament to discuss the management of state property and voiced hope that the government would deliver everything to parliament before decisions on the privatisation had to be made.

Asked by the press about the condition of Speaker Boris Sprem, Leko said "optimism is rising."
