"Handanovic has been given a prison sentence of five years and six months. She will remain in court custody until she is sent to serve her sentence," the court told Hina on Monday.
Handanovic was arrested in the United States in April 2011 and was extradited to Bosnia and Herzegovina later that year.
Handanovic expressed remorse at the executions of Croat POWs and agreed to testify against the other accused. During the trial, she accused the deputy commander of the Zulfikar unit, Nihad Bojadzic, of ordering the execution of captured Croat civilians and soldiers in Trusina, near Konjic, in April 1993.
The accused are Mensur Memic, Dzevad Salcin, Senad Hakalovic, Nedzad Hodzic, Nihad Bojadzic and Zulfikar Alispago, all former members of the Bosnian Army. Prosecutors are still investigating Edin Dzeko, a former member of the Zulfikar unit who is in custody after being recently extradited by the US.
