Ethnic Croats in Montenegro complain of hate speech ahead of local elections

TIVAT, March 16 (Hina) - The Croatian Civil Initiative, the political party representing the Croatian minority in Montenegro, called on the Montenegrin authorities on Friday to condemn hate speech and identify the author or authors of anti-Croatian graffiti on the wall of a primary school in the coastal town of Tivat ahead of local elections.

The party said in a statement that none of the authorities had responded to that act of hate speech and that the school had not removed the chauvinist graffiti either.

The party has one deputy in the Montenegrin Assembly and is in a coalition with the ruling Democratic Party of Socialists and the Social Democratic Party, but it does not have a representative in the government.

Local elections in Tivat are scheduled for April 7.

Montenegrin media did not report any incidents relating to local elections in Tivat.
