SAYS STOLTENBERG, DEATH OF A CONVOY DRIVER HOMICIDE

SPLIT, Nov 9 (Hina) - The Office of the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for the Former Yugoslavia, Thorvald Stoltenberg, released a statement on Tuesday in connection with the talks Mr Stoltenberg today held with Bosnian Prime Minister Haris Silajdzic in Sarajevo and President of the Croatian Republic of Herzeg-Bosnia Mate Boban in Split. The statement said that the talks revolved around the passage of humanitarian convoys to central Bosnia and the situation following the attack on United Nations personnel near Novi Travnik on 25 October, which resulted in the death of a convoy driver and injuries to several others. Mr Stoltenberg said that the UNPROFOR Board of Inquiry found that "the death of the driver, Bjarne Nielsen, was, with high probability, homicide and that there was a high probability that the firing came from a BiH- controlled area," said the statement. Mr Stoltenberg pointed out that it was "imperative that immediate measures be taken by the responsible authorities to prevent the recurrence of attacks on humanitarian convoys." Mr Silajdzic and Mr Boban suggested that "further measures of cooperation be pursued together with UNPROFOR for the improvement of the security of humanitarian relief convoys." 091947 MET nov 93
