BOBAN-STOLTENBERG TALKS

SPLIT, Nov 9 (Hina) - The Co-Chairman of the International Conference on the Former Yugoslavia, Thorvald Stoltenberg, held talks with the President of the Croatian Republic of Herzeg-Bosnia, Mate Boban, at the headquarters of the UNPROFOR British Battalion i Divulje near Split on Tuesday. The meeting was held at Stoltenberg's request, and focused on the problem of creating conditions for safe passage of relief convoys to central Bosnia. Following the two-hour talks, Boban told reporters that Stoltenberg agreed with him that "so far all humanitarian convoys had enjoyed full security and unimpeded passage through all Croatian territories." It was agreed that when a relief convoy was stopped UNPROFOR would have to specify who opened fire or prevent the convoy from passing. Stoltenberg officially informed Boban that the investigation into the death of a Danish truck driver showed that he had been killed by the Bosnian Army. "I have requested that every fifth convoy passing through the Croatian territory be directed to Croatian enclaves in Bosnia-Herzegovina. If UNPROFOR is unable to meet their needs, we request we be secured passage so that we could provision them ourselves," Boban said. Stoltenberg said that after the talks with Haris Silajdzic in Sarajevo this morning and with Mate Boban in Split this afternoon he would recommend to the UN Secretary-General that humanitarian convoys for Bosnia be resumed, and that he would inform the UNPROFOR Headquarters of his view. Boban told Stoltenberg that he would present one more peace initiative for Bosnia-Herzegovina these days, which would be forwarded to all international factors, and not as until now first to Owen and Stoltenberg. Late in the afternoon Stoltenberg left split for London and, as he told reporters, will arrive in Zagreb again on Wednesday. 091907 MET nov 93
