ZAGREB, Nov 1 (Hina) - Over 1,500 displaced persons and members
of the families of the deceased and disappeared Croatian defenders
light candles and built a mohund with a white cross in front of
the UNPROFOR Zagreb HQ. The mohund symbolizes the Croatian youth,
all deceased in the war in Croatia, and especially those whose
graves are not known or cannot be reached.
"This is the grave for all those who started with their hearts
against the Serbian aggressor, but also for the members of the
ECMM and UNPROFOR who were killed in Croatia, not because of our
country but because of the world policy. This grave is for the
journalists who were killed for bringing the truth about Croatia
to the world," the Vice-President of the Association of the
Families of the Detained and the Disappeared Croatian Defenders
Zdenka Farkas said.
Displaced persons and members of their families expressed
support to President Tudjman and requested him to tell the world
that this is the last year they are denied lighting candles in
the graveyards in their occupied villages and towns.
Members of the Croatian Association of Women Intellectuals delivered
three copies of their publication A Hundred Testimonies which brings
moving testimonies of Croatian displaced persons and detainees.
The books are intended to UN Secretary General Boutros Boutros
Ghali, UNPROFOR Commander Jean Cot and UN Special Rapporteur for
Human Rights Tadeusz Mazowiecki.
