CSCE SUMMIT BEGINS IN BUDAPEST

BUDAPEST, Dec 5, (Hina) - The Hungarian President Arpada Gencz this morning welcomed participants in Budapest to the start of a two day session of the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe (CSCE). CSCE summit is being attended by 70 delegations with some 2000 members. (The CSCE has 52 member countries) The first day of the session is scheduled to focus on three plenary sessions. The first speaker after the Hungarian Government President Gyule Horna delivers his speech, will be UN chief secretary, Butros-Butros Ghali. US President Bill Clinton in Budapest with US ambassador to the UN Madeleine Albright, is also expected to address the session. It is protocol that after Clinton speaks Russian President Boris Yeltsin address the session . Croatian President Franjo Tudjman is scheduled to address the second plenary session at midday. The CSCE session is being attended by German Chancellor Helmut Khol, British Prime Minister John Major, and Bosnian President Alija Izetbegovic, Italian President Luigi Scalfaro, Slovene Government President Janez Drnovsek, Turkish Prime Minister Tansu Ciller and many other heads of State and Government.
