ZAGREB, Nov 16 (Hina) - The UN High Commissioner for Refugees
office is planning to send today the 3,000th humanitarian convoy
since its mission began in 1992 to Bosnia-Herzegovina.
The convoy, departing from the southern Croatian border town
of Metkovic, brings the total of aid supplies since 1992 to 250,000
tons, UNHCR spokesman Peter Kessler said in Zagreb today.
Kessler said northwest Bosnia-Herzegovina was still
inaccessible to UNHCR convoys.
Rebel Serbs in the UN-protected area of neighbouring Croatia
have blocked the passage of 131 Bihac-bound relief convoys since
May this year. In the last seven months, 1,592 tons of humanitarian
aid have been delivered to the Bihac enclave but food requirements
alone amount to 1,900 tons a month.
The UNHCR two weeks ago asked for humanitarian aid supplies to
be airdropped into the enclave but the military situation made it
impossible, Kessler said.
