ZAGREB, Nov 15 (Hina) - Dispatching humanitarian air drops to the
Bihac area was still impossible, UN High Commissioner for Refugees
(UNHCR) spokesman, Peter Kessler, today told Hina in Zagreb.
UNHCR sent the request to French, German and US authorities
for the operation of dispatching aid two weeks ago. But, in the
meantime it was still impossible to carry out the operation.
"We are waiting for the positive answer," Kessler said.
UNHCR spokeswoman in Geneva, Sylvana Foa, said that aircraft
would dispatch humanitarian aid to the Bihac pocket by air drops,
after the air delivery of humanitarian aid ceased because of the
Serb blockade of the town.
The town needs relief aid for about 170,000 citizens. Only
1,592 tonnes of aid reached Bihac by convoys in the last seven
months, whereas citizens' monthly needs amount to 1,900 tonnes.
