PRESIDENT TUDJMAN RECEIVES US SPECIAL ENVOY THOMAS

ZAGREB, Nov 5 (Hina) - Croatian President Dr. Franjo Tudjman today received US President Bill Clinton's special envoy, Ambassador Charles Thomas, and US Ambassador in Croatia, Peter Galbraith, the President's Office said in a statement. They discussed possibilities of peace solutions to the crises in Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina. President Tudjman reiterated Croatia's firm positions. He told the US diplomats that Croatia could not agree to extending the mandate of the UN Protection Force (UNPROFOR) if an agreement on economic issues, proposed by this country, were not signed by November 21, and if the agreement did not commence to be implemented by December 20, 1994. The agreement was expected to be fulfilled in the spirit of UN Security Council (UNSC) resolutions and a UN General Assembly Fourth Political Committee resolution on reintegration of the occupied areas of Croatia. Different pieces of information on the work of the 'Z-4' Group, lately published by media, were not acceptable to Croatia. President Tudjman expressed hope that the 'Z-4' Group would support Croatia's peace views which are grounded on the Croatian Constitution, The Constitutional Law, and President Tudjman's piece initiative, issued on November 1, 1193. President Tudjman said Croatia could not allow to suffer the prolonging of this state of affairs or the encountering of the same fate as Cyprus. It would not let that any part of its territory be separated. President Tudjman requested stronger influence of USA and the Contact Group members in achieving a peace solution in Croatia, based on the reintegration of its occupied areas.
