ZAGREB, July 15 (Hina) - At today's session with representatives of
political parties the Croatian Helsinki Committee (HHO) presented
the current situation as regards human rights in Croatia,
emphasizing the problem of the evictions against the law.
Representatives of the Croatian Social Liberal Party (HSLS),
the Croatian Independent Democrats (HND), the Socialist Party of
Croatia (SSH), the Social Democratic Party of Croatia (SDP), the
Dalmatian Action (DA), the Istrian Democratic Parliament (IDS), the
Croatian Party of Law (HSP), the Serb National Party (SNS), the
Croatian National Party (HNS), the Social-Democratic Union of
Croatia (SDU), and the Citizens' Committee on Human Rights were
present at the session. The members of the Croatian Democratic
Union (HDZ), and Croatian Farmers Party (HSS) had been invited to
today's meeting, but they declined to come.
After several-hour-long discussion the participants made
several conclusions according to which they "condemn attempts to
politically instrumentalize the problems of flats, and insist on
the strict respect of the equality of all citizens." The
participants in today's session called on the Croatian government
to declare a moratorium on evictions from the disputable flats.
