MOSCENICA, May 14 (Hina) - Alarmed at the failure of Serb forces to
pull out of the blue zone in keeping with the March 29 Agreement,
the residents of Moscenica (50 km S.E. of Zagreb) put up roadblocks
on a road leading to occupied Petrinja (UNPA North) on Friday
evening and spent the night keeping watch at the barricade.
Under the March 29 agreement, Croatian army and Serb
paramilitary troops were to withdraw from the 2-km disengagement
zone, which was to be policed by UNPROFOR. The Croatian army duly
withdrew from the 'blue zone' part of Moscenica, but Serb
guerrillas, including notorious "wolfhounds" from Bosnia, remained
at a nearby timber factory disguised as workers. The factory is
flying the Serbian flag.
The residents had staged another protest ten days ago, when
UNPROFOR members removed the Croatian flag from the local club and
Serb guerrillas took away five people who had gone to look at their
houses in the "blue zone," putting them in jail on the charge of
"crossing the Serbian border."
