SISAK, May 3 (Hina) - Sisak police told a news conference today
about a disturbance that occurred on Monday in the nearby village
of Moscenica, part of which is included in the 'blue' disengagement
zone under the 29 March Agreement on Cessation of Hostilities in
Croatia.
The rumpus started on Monday morning when UNPROFOR removed the
Croatian flag from the local club. The villagers staged a protest
rally, barred the roads to occupied Petrinja (UNPA North) and
demanded that the Serb aggressors' flag be removed from a nearby
timber factory situated on the occupied territory. Ad-hoc Croatian
army and police commissions were dispatched hot-foot to Moscenica,
where they remained closeted for three hours with the irate
villagers and UNPROFOR representatives. Finally, UNPROFOR returned
the flag and the residents cleared the roads on Monday evening.
A police spokesman told reporters that the villagers kept
watch around the club throughout the night. However, no more
incidents were recorded.
The Sisak Police Department, police chiefs in Sector North,
UNPROFOR and local residents' representatives are to resume talks
today.
