ZADAR, May 5 (Hina) - The UNPROFOR command in Sector South said in
a report Thursday morning that Serb forces had withdrawn from two
points in the disengagement zone in the Sector - from Pristeg near
Benkovac and Mount Celnik. A Serb anti-aircraft unit in the
Benkovac area also pulled out to a distance of 10 km from the
confrontation line.
It was said that the UN secretary general's special
representative for former Yugoslavia, Yasushi Akashi, would be
travelling to Knin on May 9 to meet the so-called president of the
breakaway Krajina region, Milan Martic.
A delegation of the European Union, comprising ambassadors of
Germany, Belgium and France, is also expected to visit Knin these
days to encourage the resumption of peace talks between local Serb
authorities and the Croatian government.
The report went on to say that UNPROFOR civil police continued
patrolling the disengagement area in Sector South. Yesterday,
together with Croatian police, they made a joint tour of the
villages of Dragisici and Gacelezi in the Sibenik hinterland.
