SUBOTICA, April 8 (Hina) - Yugoslav Prime Minister Radoje Kontic
refused to meet a delegation of the Democratic Union of Croats in
Vojvodina (DSHV) without explanation, the party's headquarters in
Subotica said in a statement on Friday.
The statement said the DSHV delegation could only be received
by Minister for Human and Minority Rights Margit Savovic.
Since the DSHV had already held fruitless talks with Savovic
about the plight of the Croatian community, the statement said it
was not very likely that another meeting would be held at all. It
noted the final decision rested with the DSHV leadership.
DSHV officials in Subotica said that ethnic Hungarians in
Vojvodina had also been denied request to solve their problems
through dialogue. Their leader Andras Agoston asked from Yugoslav
President Zoran Lilic that Vojvodina Hungarians be allowed to
participate in drafting a new Minorities Bill, which Belgrade
dismissed.
