ZAGREB, Apr 5 (Hina) - The situation in Gorazde after the latest
Serb attack on the outskirts of this eastern-Bosnian Moslem enclave
is serious, said UNPROFOR spokesman in Zagreb Matthew Nerzig on
Tuesday, adding that UNPROFOR Commander in Bosnia-Herzegovina Gen.
Michael Rose would go to Gorazde on Wednesday.
UNPROFOR Chief-of-Staff Gen. Charles Ritchie said UNPROFOR
estimated that "Gorazde would not fall" and that the Serb advance,
"overdramatized by the media" consisted in "minor incursions" at
some points.
The Secretary-General's Special Envoy Yasushi Akashi is going
to Sarajevo and some other towns in Bosnia on Wednesday. He is
expected to meet with Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic.
Nerzig said UNPROFOR planned to deploy an additional battalion
in Gorazde by mid-April.
The UN Security Council proclaimed Gorazde a safe haven a year
ago. Currently, four UN monitors are posted in the area.
