ZAGREB, March 15 (Hina) - The U.N. Secretary General, Boutros
Boutros Ghali, and his special envoy in former Yugoslavia Yasushi
Akashi are now considering possibilities for new concept of
UNPROFOR mandate that expires on March 31, said on Tuesday General
Jean Cot. Cot held press conference in Zagreb together with his
successor General Bertrand Guilaume de Lapresle.
General Cot said that he already gave several proposals
regarding "possible new concept of new mandate" to Yasushi Akashi
but added that "it will be difficult". "That is my evaluation",
said Cot.
Cot stressed on need for broader powers for "close air-force
support" that should be given to military officials. "In the
beginning U.N. Secretary General was authorized, than his special
envoy but we should go further", said General Cot..."In some
special situations, carefully defined, authorizations should be
given to military people", said Cot.
