ZAGREB, March 8 (Hina) - Croatian President Franjo Tudjman received
US President Clinton's Special Envoy Charles Redman and his
assistants on Tuesday.
Redman described the talks as constructive. "The progress
achieved in the past three weeks in the work with the Croatian
Government is extraordinary. Obviously we have yet to surmount
certain obstacles, but I hope our close co-operation leads to an
even greater progress," Redman said.
He said he was optimistic at this stage despite the problems
in the region. "A number of things have happened that give us the
impression that this is the right moment to go forward with
measures that will not only restore peace in Bosnia-Herzegovina,
but also help establish greater stability and solve various
problems in the entire region," Redman said.
Redman said he valued the partnership of the Croatian
Government and President Tudjman in the peace process.
Asked to evaluate the Vienna talks, Redman replied they were
well under way and no difficulties were expected, "although there
were several days of hard work ahead."
The talks were also attended by US Ambassador to Croatia Peter
Galbraith, Croatian Foreign Minister Mate Granic, Croatian Defence
Minister Gojko Susak, Deputy Foreign Minister Ivo Sanader and
Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva Miomir Zuzul, and head
of the presidential office Jure Radic.
