SARAJEVO, May 26 (Hina) - Bosnian Serbs failed to withdraw their
heavy weapons from a 20 km exclusion zone around Sarajevo by noon
today, ignoring a second ultimatum set two days ago by UN
peacekeeping force commander Lt. Gen. Rupert Smith.
Serb heavy weapons remained in the exclusion zone after 12.00
hours while the Bosnian army fully complied with the ultimatum and
placed its weapons under UN supervision, UN officials in Sarajevo
said.
Serbs had neither handed over three artillery pieces and a
mortar they should have returned to UN peacekeepers by the noon
deadline yesterday.
The UN was expected to release a report later in the day on
the total number of Serb heavy weapons still inside the Sarajevo
exclusion zone.
