U.N. SAYS BOTH SIDES IN CROATIA FAIL TO WITHDRAW

ZAGREB, May 15 (Hina) - The situation in Western Slavonia was calm but still tense, UN spokesmen told reporters in Zagreb today. UN spokesman Christopher Gunnes said that 345 prisoners of war had been transferred from Bjelovar yesterday and that, according to Croatian authorities, they had been returned to Pakrac. The other spokesman, Fred Eckhard, described the situation in former UN Sectors North, South and East. He said that troop movement had been registered inside separation zones and that both sides had failed to withdraw completely. There were still hundreds of troops of both sides in former Sector North, Gunness said. The Croatian army had failed to pull out of the separation zone in former Sector South although a partial withdrawal was registered, Gunness said. Both sides also maintained a significant troop presence in the Osijek and Vinkovci area of former UN Sector East, Gunness said. (hina) jn vm 151706 MET may 95
