UNPROFOR WARNS BOSNIAN ARMY AND SERB FORCES TO CEASE FIRE

SARAJEVO, May 24 (Hina) - UNPROFOR commander for Sector Sarajevo, General Herwe Gobilliard this morning urged the Bosnian army and Serb forces to cease fighting. A fresh outburst of fighting erupted at about 9 a.m. when Serb forces launched an artillery attack on Bosnian army positions on the slopes of Mt Trebevic. UN General Nikolai talked on the phone with Ratko Mladic, the commander of Bosnian Serb forces and asked him to stop cannon attacks. UNPROFOR spokesman for Sector Sarajevo, Major Gy Winnet confirmed to the Croatian news agency Hina that the fiercest fighting raged on the slope of Debelo Brdo and near the Serb- controlled suburb of Grbavica. Serbs were attacking civilian targets in the residential area of Soukbunar near Debelo Brdo, according to a report of the Bosnian army 1st Corps information service. The area came under mortar and tank fire. Serbs broke into a UN-controlled heavy weapon depot in the village of Osjek, west of Sarajevo, around 5.30 am and stole two 76-mm cannons and one 120-mm mortar, a UN spokesman in Sarajevo said. A UN liaison officer in the Serb-held barracks of Lukavica lodged an official protest and demanded that Serbs return the weapons. A cannon stolen by Serbs from the Poljine heavy weapon depot two days ago was still not returned. 241133 MET may 95
