SARAJEVO, May 24 (Hina) - UNPROFOR commander for Sector Sarajevo,
General Herwe Gobilliard this morning urged the Bosnian army and
Serb forces to cease fighting.
A fresh outburst of fighting erupted at about 9 a.m. when
Serb forces launched an artillery attack on Bosnian army
positions on the slopes of Mt Trebevic.
UN General Nikolai talked on the phone with Ratko Mladic,
the commander of Bosnian Serb forces and asked him to stop cannon
attacks.
UNPROFOR spokesman for Sector Sarajevo, Major Gy Winnet
confirmed to the Croatian news agency Hina that the fiercest
fighting raged on the slope of Debelo Brdo and near the Serb-
controlled suburb of Grbavica.
Serbs were attacking civilian targets in the residential
area of Soukbunar near Debelo Brdo, according to a report of the
Bosnian army 1st Corps information service. The area came under
mortar and tank fire.
Serbs broke into a UN-controlled heavy weapon depot in the
village of Osjek, west of Sarajevo, around 5.30 am and stole two
76-mm cannons and one 120-mm mortar, a UN spokesman in Sarajevo
said.
A UN liaison officer in the Serb-held barracks of Lukavica
lodged an official protest and demanded that Serbs return the
weapons.
A cannon stolen by Serbs from the Poljine heavy weapon depot
two days ago was still not returned.
