REBEL CROATIAN SERBS CONDUCT COMBAT AIRCRAFT REVIEW

ZADAR, April 12 (Hina) - The situation in former UN Sectors South and North in Croatia was mainly stable but the situation in the Dinara mountains was tense, Alun Roberts, UNCRO spokesman in former Sector South, told a press conference in Zadar today. Rebel Croatian Serbs were very concerned about possible advances of Croatian army or Bosnian Croat HVO forces in the Dinara mountains, Roberts said. Serbs yesterday conducted a review of combat aircraft at the Udbina airfield, Roberts said. He added that a plane was spotted flying low over Knin for about ten minutes on Monday and Tuesday morning. Serb forces had obstructed the movement of UN personnel nine times last week while the Croatian army had done it 20 times, Roberts said. UN movement was osbstructed most in the Korenica area and Roberts linked this to Bosnian army Fift Corps advances south of Bihac. The Bosnian army now controls a road leading to former Sector South. Roberts stressed that Serb forces opened fire at the deputy UN commander for former Sector South, Colonel Bill Morton, on two ocassions last week and that he was deprived of his vehicle in Knin. Roberts said that the UN still had not displayed UNCRO signs in former Sectors South and North on the advice of the UN main headquarters. He said that Serbs in Topusko had threatened to seize any vehicle bearing new UN markings. The same terminology, including old names of sectors, would remain until further notice, he added.
