SARAJEVO, Apr 8 (Hina) - A heavy exchange of artillery fire was
reported on Mt Majevica in north-eastern Bosnia yesterday, the UN
in Sarajevo said today.
UN military observers have counted 1126 detonations in the
area in the past 24 hours, particularly around the 'Stolice' TV
transmitter.
Some 400 detonations have been registered around Kalesija
(east of Tuzla).
The situation in central Bosnia has been much calmer since the
Bosnian army reinforced their newly-won positions on Mt Vlasic and
the whole Vlasic plateau, including the 'Opaljenik' TV transmitter.
Only a few explosions were registered around Travnik, Bugojno
and Donji Vakuf yesterday and last night, the UN said.
In western Bosnia, fighting still raged around the village of
Vrnograc, east of Velika Kladusa, where Serb units renegade Moslem
troops loyal to Fikret Abdic had been trying for days to break
through the Bosnian army 5th corps defence lines, but with scant
success.
Meanwhile, Bosnian army and Croatian Defence Council (HVO)
units managed to seize a road west of Bihac, previously used by the
Serbs for shipping supplies and troops from occupied parts of
Croatia to the Bihac front.
Twelve, not seven people were wounded in the Thursday Serb
artillery attack on Bihac towns, the UN said. Among them were two
seriously wounded children, whose lives were still in danger.
