BOSNIAN GOVERNMENT CALLS ON U.N. TO PERFORM ITS TASKS

SARAJEVO, April 10 (Hina) - The Bosnian government today held an emergency session owing to the latest Serb attacks on Sarajevo. The government called on UNPROFOR to take measures to stop Bosnian Serbs from attacking the UN safe areas. Otherwise, the Bosnian side would be forced to take its own measures to stop Serb attacks, Prime Minister Haris Silajdzic said. Serbs have fired 70 large-calibre shells, killing 6 and wounding 33 persons between April 1 and 10, according to the Bosnian Interior Ministry. Last night Serbs fired 12 mortar shells on central Sarajevo, killing two and wounding six persons. The government banned public gatherings for fear of new attacks. Foreign Minister Irfan Ljubijankic said that the UN commander in Sarajevo, Gen. Rupert Smith, confirmed that the Bosnian army had not provoked last night's Serb attack. Minister Hasan Muratovic, in charge of cooperation with UNPROFOR, said that the government was not asking from the United Nations anything but to perform their duty based on Security Council decisions. Muratovic said that Bosnian Serbs had been testing UNPROFOR for days and still were not given the proper answer. (hina) rm 102131 MET apr 95
