PAKRAC, April 4 (Hina) - "Since the expiry of the UNPROFOR mandate
the security situation has not been changed in the Pakrac and Lipik
areas," Nikola Ivkanec, the superintendent of the Pakrac police,
said today. The Pakrac area is about 100 kilometres east of Zagreb.
UN forces are continuing to carry out their duties at check-
points and also at such points in unoccupied parts of the former
UNPA Sector West.
"This makes some citizens confused, since they have expected
that every kind of UN activities should cease in the unoccupied
areas with the expiry of the UNPROFOR mandate," Ivkanec said adding
that such situation would remain until the operationalization of
the new mandate started.
Ivkanec said the Croatian authorities would insist that Serb
paramilitaries withdraw from the present positions in the Zone of
Separation to the positions defined by the Zagreb Agreement.
