SARAJEVO, March 6 (Hina) - The blockade of food and medicine
convoys imposed by Bosnian Serbs was described as the flagrant
violation of all norms of the international war and humanitarian
law in a letter by UN special envoy Yasushi Akashi to Bosnian Serb
leader Radovan Karadzic.
Akashi sent the letter to Karadzic on Saturday, the UNPROFOR
headquarters in Sarajevo reported today. Akashi also warned
psychiatrist Karadzic of the fact that such conduct could be
considered at the Hague Tribunal for War Crimes.
Despite this warning UN commander in Bosnia, General Rupert
Smith, yesterday failed to convince Bosnian Serb military commander
Ratko Mladic to revoke the ban on the passage of eastern Bosnia-
bound convoys.
Four French and one American, members of the crew of the
convoy organized by "Pharmacienne sans Frontiers", that were
detained by Serbs last Saturday in the occupied Sarajevo suburb of
Lukavica, are still being held by the Serbs. UNPROFOR officials are
conducting negotiations on their release today.
