ZAGREB, March 3 (Hina) - Croatian President, Franjo Tudjman, will
head the Croatian delegation at the World Summit on Social
Development, to take place in Copenhague from March 6 to 12, Deputy
Prime Minister, Ivica Kostovic, said today.
Over 130 heads of states have already confirmed their arrival,
Kostovic, who is also a member of the delegation, told a news
conference at the University Press Centre.
The Copenhague summit was the largest panel organised by the
United Nations to date, Kostovic said.
After the closing meeting on March 11 and 12, the heads of
states are expected to sign a declaration, thereby assuming
responsibility for the overall social development in their
countries.
"The international community must ensure peace, because it is
a precondition for peace," Kostovic said.
The Croatian delegation's suggestion that refugee problems be
included in the Declaration, has been accepted, Kostovic said.
Asked if he expected political talks with other delegations
regarding Croatia's decision to end the UNPROFOR mandate, Deputy
Foreign Minister, Ivan Simonovic, said some bilateral meetings had
already been arranged and there would surely be certain informal
encounters.
