ZAGREB, Feb 26 (Hina) - The Sub-Committee for Human Rights of the
Council of Europe's Parliamentary Assembly is to hold a session
in Zagreb on February 27-28.
The meeting will be chaired by Lopez Henares of Spain and
will discuss the human rights situation, the functioning of the
legal system, the protection of minorities and the development of
parliamentary democracy in Croatia.
The session will take place against the bacground of the
process of Croatia's admission to the Council of Europe.
It will be the first time for a Council of Europe body to
hold a meeting in Croatia.
The meeting will be attended by the newly-appointed
repporteur on Croatia of the Committee for Legal Matters and
Human Rights, Gunnar Jansson of Finland.
EU officials are also scheduled to meet representatives of
the Croatian Parliament, the Ministries of the Interior and
Justice, the Bar Association, non-governmental agencies,
minorities and media.
