UNESIC, March 2 (Hina) - Oklaj municipal leaders today sent a
letter to the UN headquarters in Zagreb demanding that UN
peacekeepers stop Serb harrasment of the aged in Promine, in the
Sibenik hinterland.
The letter described the latest example of a group of Croats
being maltreated in the centre of Matasa village "in full view of
UNPROFOR soldiers who did absolutely nothing to stop the incident
and protect them - they didn't even bother to tell their commander
about it."
Following Serb aggression on the Oklaj municipality, more than
two thirds of Croats, who comprised more than 85 per cent of the
population in the area in 1991, had been expelled.
The remaining Croats were exposed to harassment and 36 of them
had been killed since UN deployment. Only a hundred Croats remained
in the area.
