ZAGREB, Feb 28 (Hina) - The subcommittee for human rights of the Parliamentary group of the Council of Europe, which is holding a session in Zagrab today, this afternoon met with Croatian Interior Ministry officials and Constitutional Court judges. After the meeting, assistant Interior Minister Zdravko Zidovec told journalists that the subcommittee was interested in the organisation of police work in Croatia, the enforcement of the Citizenship Act and in the protection of minorities' rights in police procedure. Zidovec said that Ministry officials gave exhaustive answers and information to disprove certain ideas and reports nursed by the Committee. Assistant Justice Minister, Josip Kardum, told journalists that during the meeting there were words on the functioning and independence of the courts. Kardum said the subcommittee had gathered a reliable body of information on all these aspects. "This meeting has been highly useful," Croatia's Constitutional Court president Jadranko Crnic, told journalists afterwards. "We gave him concrete information on all the cases that had been submitted to us as well as our verdicts." Members of the subcommittee were particularly interested the the 'Feral Tribune' newspaper case, which was again before the Constitutional Court, Crnic added.
