ZAGREB, Feb 10 (Hina) - "The only acceptable element of the Zagreb-
four plan for Croatia is that it seeks a peaceful settlement within
Croatia's internationally recognised borders," Croatian President
Franjo Tudjman told a press conference today.
"Any version that grants the Serbs federal or confederal
rights is quite unacceptable for Croatia," Tudjman said.
Asked if Croatia was up to dealing with the consequences of
its decision to cancel the UNPROFOR mandate, President Tudjman said
that decision had been made autonomously and with full
responsibility.
He expressed confidence that Croatia's friends and all
international factors would come to realise that the decision was
the right one, and that it would speed up the peace process both in
Croatia and in other areas of former Yugoslavia.
"Croatia will know how to pursue its course with full
responsibility to the Croatian nation - we will know how to
harmonise our moves with the interests of the international
community without giving up our national interests," Tudjman said.
Asked to comment on the Knin Serb decision to suspend talks
with Zagreb, Tudjman said this attitude showed that they considered
the UN peace-keepers as a means for prolonging the occupation of
Croatian areas.
"But it is to be expected that reason will prevail among them
and that they won't try to hamper the peace process and the
reintegration of all these areas into Croatia's Constitutional and
legal system," he said.
