NO CHANGES IN PEACE PLAN FOR BOSNIA, THOMAS SAYS

SARAJEVO, Jan 28 (Hina) - The US are standing by the Contact Group and have not changed their views about Bosnia, US Ambassador Charles Thomas said in an interview with the Sarajevo-based daily "Oslobodenje". According to Thomas, the only change was the decision to resume contacts with Pale after five months of tight international isolation of Karadzic's Serbs. He emphasised that the proposed peace plan hadn't been changed. "If both sides wish to make some changes in the maps, it's OK with us, but we are starting from the maps proposed by the Contact Group," Thomas said. He described as "acceptable" President Izetbegovic's suggestion that the Bosnian Serbs be given another two months to accept the peace plan. Asked about the US views on the problems in the implementation of the Washington Accords, Thomas said his government was aware of the difficulties and would discussed them when Premier Silajdzic came to Washington. As for Croatia's decision to end the UNPROFOR mandate, Thomas was hopeful that "it won't come to that" as there were "factors that might move President Tudjman to change his decision."
