BOSNIAN GOVT AND CONTACT GROUP OFFICIALS DISCUSS PEACE PLAN

SARAJEVO, Jan 25 (Hina) - Five power Contact Group representatives today met top Bosnian officials to discuss the peace process in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Russian ambassador Alexander Zotov told a press conference that the Bosnian government reiterated its willingness to accept the Contact Group peace plan but that there was no clear response from Bosnian Serbs. The Contact Group would continue its efforts to encourage both sides to accept the peace plan as a foundation for further negotiations, Zotov added. Bosnian President Alija Izetbegovic said the Contact Group had confirmed that Serbs were still rejecting the peace plan. Izetbegovic said his government proposed that Serbs be given another two months to make a final decision, during which time further talks would be conducted. Izetbegovic and Zotov confirmed that the Contact Group would continue its mission. Commenting on allegations that the United States changed its policy towards Bosnia, Izetbegovic said the US government gave assurances it did not change its stance. However, Bosnian Prime Minister Haris Silajdzic was to travel to Washington to discuss the matter, Izetbegovic added. (hina) mm rv vm 251607 MET jan 95
