US ADMINISTRATION ON CROATIA'S DECISION TO END MANDATE OF UNPROFOR

UNPROFOR $ WASHINGTON, Jan 13 (Hina) - US Administration believed that Croatia should change its decision to end the UNPROFOR mandate in the country. Answering to the question about Croatian President Franjo Tudjman's rejection to reconsider his decision, expressed in his response this week to US President Bill Clinton's letter, a spokesman for the State Department, David Johnson, on Friday said US Administration was to undertake additional steps in the next days regarding Croatia's decision to end the mission of UNPROFOR. Johnson added that the US Administration still held the view that the decision to end the UNPROFOR mandate could not contribute to peace, and US officials believed it should be changed. We would work with Croatia and other parties to decrease negative consequences of such a decision in Croatia and in the neighbouring countries, Johnson said. He said that President Tudjman's envoys had emphasized that the decision would not influence the UNPROFOR mandate in Bosnia- Herzegovina or its headquarters in Zagreb. He said that during next days the Contact Group was to discuss Croatia's decision. US State Secretary also would consider it with his British and Russian counterparts at their forthcoming meetings.
