SARAJEVO, Dec 17 (Hina) - A helicopter belonging to IFOR was forced
to make an emergency landing near Sarajevo Monday night.
IFOR spokesman Jan Joosten said on Tuesday that a "Puma"
helicopter had been carrying six passengers from Trogir (Croatia)
towards an IFOR base in Rajlovac near Sarajevo. #L#
Some time before 2.00 hours, the flight control lost radio
contact with the helicopter which was near its destination at that
moment. Special search teams were immediately dispatched to the
scene, as well as an American AWACS aircraft.
Fog and the impassability of the terrain made the search
difficult, so the helicopter was only discovered at 5.00 hours
Tuesday morning, some 800 metres from the IFOR base in Rajlovac.
The helicopter was visibly damaged, but none of the passengers
or crew suffered any injuries.
An investigation into the reasons for the forced landing were
under way, Major Joosten said.
