EU SPENDS 40 MILLION GERMAN MARKS FOR RENOVATION OF MOSTAR HOUSES

MOSTAR, Dec 11 (Hina) - The EU Administration in Mostar has so far spent more than 40 million German marks for renovation of houses in eastern and western parts of Mostar. The office of the EU Special Envoy in the southern Bosnian- Herzegovinian town said on Wednesday that the EU Administration reconstruction committee had run the rebuilding of 5,340 lightly damaged houses and 345 destroyed houses as well as eight residential buildings with 287 flats. The repaired houses and buildings totalled about 6000 dwelling units for over 25,000 tenants. Out of lightly damaged houses repaired by the help of EU, 3,240 are located in the eastern part, while 2,100 are in the western part of the town. Out of destroyed houses, 255 were rebuilt in eastern part of Mostar, 40 in the Moslem-controlled outskirts of Vrapcici, while 79 houses were rebuilt in the Croat-controlled outskirts of Potoci- Vojno. The EU Administration committee also repaired 4 systems of central heating, 21 elevators and 42 water pumps. According to the statement, it did repairs on power grids. Several thousand houses got glass, doors and windows. The Bristol hotel was also renovated. The EU Administration also financed repairs on flats in Husnije Repca Street, which were carried out by the Danish Council for Refugees, the statement said. (hina) jn mš 111559 MET dec 96
