CROATIA'S PEN CENTRE TO ELECT NEW LEADERSHIP

ZAGREB, Nov 30 (Hina) - The Croatian PEN centre's last assembly this year began at noon on Saturday in Zagreb. The assembly is expected to elect a new leadership. At the beginning of the assembly the Croatian PEN president Slobodan Prosperov Novak reminded the gathering that the current leadership had been elected on October 7, 1992, whereas he had been in office for two years before 1992. The assembly observed a minute silent standing to pay tribute for the deceased members who died in the last six years. Mile Stojic and Tonko Maroevic, out of four proposed members, were elected in the working presidency. During a heated debate Josip Pavicic suggested that the assembly should discuss the responsibility of the PEN centre president Slobodan Prosperov Novak for the bullfight-style atmosphere in which the assembly was being held. Pavicic's proposal was rejected by a majority of vote. Following the adoption of the assembly's agenda, Prosperov Novak gave a report on activities in the past six years. He stressed the organization of the PEN World Congress that had took place in Dubrovnik in 1993. The assembly is going on. (hina) mš 301857 MET nov 96
