RADIO 101 TO CONTINUE BROADCASTING UNTIL NEW DECISION ON FREQUENCY

FREQUENCY $ LICENCE ZAGREB, Nov 21 (Hina) - Croatian Telecommunications Council president Branko Mocibob said on Thursday that the Council would repeat an invitation for bids for a radio frequency licence for the Zagreb area considering a decision by Globus 101 radio to renounce the licence it was granted on Wednesday. Radio 101 would continue regular broadcasts until the Council made a new decision, Mocibob said in a statement. The Croatian government issued a statement from a session on Thursday noting that the Telecommunications Council was elected by the Croatian parliament and that the government did not have legal powers to influence the Council's work and decision-making. The government said that conditions had been created for the Council to repeat the invitation for bids for the radio frequency in the capital, adding that Radio 101 should be ensured unimpeded work until the completion of the bidding process. The presidency of the city committee of the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) party called on the Council to reconsider its decision and find a solution to everyone's satisfaction. The presidency fully backed Radio 101's efforts to win the licence and called on political parties to refrain from inviting citizens to protest rallies considering international circumstances surrounding Croatia. It emphasized the need to find a joint solution to the benefit of the citizens of Zagreb. (hina) vm mm 211830 MET nov 96
