Lieutenant Gunnarsson said that the security situation on
Prevlaka had improved considerably during his mandate and thanked
the Croatian side for successful cooperation, stressing the
cooperation of local authorities.
Deputy Foreign Minister Sanader stressed that the Prevlaka
peninsula is an integral part of Croatia, which was confirmed in
the Agreement on the Normalisation of Relations Between Croatia and
Yugoslavia. Croatia is willing to discuss only the security
situation on Prevlaka and its hinterland on both sides of the
border. Croatia has prepared an answer to the Yugoslav aide-memoirs
on the Prevlaka peninsula, and it will submit it to the U.N.
secretariat next week, Sanader said.
In the aide-memoirs on the Prevlaka peninsula, sent recently
to the United Nations, the Yugoslav Government presents its stance
according to which the Prevlaka peninsula should come under
Yugoslav control.
