ZAGREB, Nov 8 (Hina) - Croatian Development and Reconstruction
Minister Jure Radic on Friday said that out of a total of 14,500
houses which were included in this year's reconstruction plan,
12,000 houses were fully or partially reconstructed.
Eight thousand houses are fully completed and in 4,000 houses
interior repairs will continue through the winter period.
At the beginning of the year, there had been 198,000 displaced
persons in Croatia, of which about 80,000 had returned to their
homes, Radic told a news conference in Zagreb on Friday.
By the end of the year, another 20,000 displaced persons would
be able to return to their reconstructed houses, Radic said.
Some 4.7 billion kuna were still necessary to bring the
process of reconstruction to an end, Radic said, stressing that the
Dalmatian area would be reconstructed by the beginning of the next
tourist season.
Around 60 schools had been reconstructed this year, Radic
said, adding that the Croatian Bishops' Conference would be asked
for a list of priorities for the reconstruction of some three dozen
churches. Health clinics and cultural centres would be
reconstructed as well.
He said that 2,000 buildings were under reconstruction in the
Croatian Danubian area.
Radic told reporters he was discussing with General Klein the
possibility of calling an International Donators' Conference for
the reconstruction of Vukovar and the Croatian Danubian area.
