decided at yesterday's meeting that police authority for Mostar would be transferred to cantonal level as a temporary solution until Mostar police was unified, he said.
MOSTAR, 11 Oct (Hina) - The deadline for the establishment of joint
Mostar police had not been met, the head of the Western European
police in Mostar, Pieter Lambrechtse, told a press conference
Friday. That was why it had been decided at yesterday's meeting
that police authority for Mostar would be transferred to cantonal
level as a temporary solution until Mostar police was unified, he

Duties of the Western European police will be performed by the
International Police Task Force (IPTF) in cooperation with the
Croat-Muslim Federation's Interior Ministry. The mandate of the
Western European police expires on Monday, 14 October.
IPTF would have 50 members and it was expected to complete all
its tasks until the end of its mandate in 1997, IPTF official,
Colonel Horst Thiemann said.
The hand-over of authority and police equipment will be
carried out on Tuesday, 15 October, by European Union special
representative in Mostar, Sir Martin Garrod.
