MOSTAR, Sept 20 (Hina) - A group of Bosniaks on Thursday stopped
and attacked a BMW car carrying a team of Croatian Television
Mostar in the centre of the city, the Western European Union Police
(WEU) said in a statement on Friday.
The statement, signed by WEU spokesman Howard Fox, says that a
policeman form the eastern (Muslim) part of Mostar stopped a UNHCR
vehicle and the BMW as part of a regular traffic inspection.
WEU points out that some people recognized a popular Croatian
reporter in the BMW, who during the war reported from Mostar, and
made an attempt to attack him.
The reporter in question was Smiljko Sagolj, even though the
WEU statement does not mention his name.
Eastern Mostar policemen tried to protect the car, the
statement says, and adds that four joint police patrols, headed by
the WEU chief of operation in Mostar, immediately arrived on the
scene.
The situation calmed down after half an hour and Sagolj
returned to Western Mostar, the statement concluded.
