Granic's meeting with Italian Foreign Minister Lamberto Dini
confirmed good relations between the two countries. Rome supported
Croatia's admission to the Council of Europe and other European
institutions, Dini said after the talks.
Granic also met with his Slovene and Moldavian counterparts,
Davorin Kracun and Mikhail Popov respectively.
During the talks with Popov and Kracun, Granic reiterated
Croatia's stance regarding the U.N. mandate in eastern Slavonia and
Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Croatia accepted the so-called 'three plus three' model - the
extension of the U.N. mandate for three months, with the additional
three months for the withdrawal of U.N. troops, Granic said.
Croatian Serbs in eastern Slavonia demand an extension of the
mandate for another year, and world powers hold that the current
mandate should be extended for six months.
As regarded Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia strongly opposed the
idea about the centralization of the country and it would support
the Croat-Muslim Federation and Bosnia-Herzegovina in the way it
had agreed to in the Washington and Dayton agreements - as an
entity which guarantees equal rights to all three peoples, Granic
said.
