"I believe this to be a significant step in promoting
relations between the two countries," Granic said before leaving
for Zagreb.
He added that the implementation of successful elections in
Bosnia-Herzegovina and the agreement on the normalization of
relations between Croatia and Yugoslavia would contribute to the
accelerated development of relations between Croatia and Russia,
especially economic relations.
Granic said that his three-hour talks with Russian Foreign
Minister Jefgenij Primakov had mostly focused on the Croatian
Danubian area.
Stressing that Croatia could not allow a group of extremists
to determine the speed of the reintegration of the region, Granic
said that Croatia guaranteed human and minority rights to all Serbs
in eastern Slavonia.
"Only when Croatia takes over full authority, the return of
displaced persons and the reconstruction of the area would be
possible to realize," Granic said.
During his visit to Moscow, Granic also held talks with deputy
president of the Russian Parliament Upper House Valerij Zubov and
Russian Premier's first assistant Aleksej Boljsakov.
