OSCE RELEASES PRELIMINARY RESULTS OF BOSNIAN ELECTIONS

SARAJEVO, Sept 18 (Hina) - The OSCE mission in Bosnia-Herzegovina on Wednesday released incomplete and unofficial results of Saturday's nationwide elections for the lower houses of the Assembly of Bosnia-Herzegovina, the Assembly of the Croat-Moslem Federation, the Assembly of the Serb Republic, and cantonal assemblies. On the territory of the Federation, which has 28 seats in the Bosnian Assembly, the Moslem-led Democratic Action Party (SDA) won 57.21 percent of the vote, the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) 21.39 per cent and the Joint List 9.26 percent. A total of 985,726 votes were counted. In the Serb entity, which has 14 seats in the Bosnian Assembly, the Serb Democratic Party (SDS) gained 51.37 percent, SDA 23.51 percent, the National Alliance for Free Peace 11.5 percent, the Serb Radical Party 5.33 percent and the Joint List for Bosnia- Herzegovina 3.13 percent. A total of 500,089 votes were counted. In the election for the Federation's 140-seat lower house, SDA won 59.47 percent, HDZ 22.02 percent and the Joint List 6.88 percent. A total of 857,512 votes were counted. SDS candiate Biljana Plavsic was elected president of the Serb Republic. Her deputy would be Dragoljub Mirjanovic, also an SDS member. In the election for the Serb assembly, SDS gained 63.14 percent, the National Alliance for Free Peace 13.14 percent, the Serb Radical Party 8.34 percent and SDA 5.15 percent. A total of 323,588 votes were counted. In the election for the 50-seat Una Canton assembly, SDA won 83.57 percent, the Democratic Popular Union 6.76 percent, the Joint List 1.82 percent and HDZ 1.79 percent. In the election for the 20-seat Posavina Canton assembly, HDZ won 84.46 percent, SDA 12.42 percent and the Joint List 2.61 percent. In the election for the 50-seat Tuzla Canton assembly, SDA gained 75.72 percent, HDZ 11.42 percent and the Party for Bosnia- Herzegovina 5.37 percent. In the election for the 59-seat Zenica Canton assembly, SDA won 67.9 percent, HDZ 13.75 percent and the Joint List 0.3 percent. In the election for the 55-seat Central Bosnian Canton assembly, SDA won 54.26 percent, HDZ 38.98 percent and the Joint List 2.5 percent. Election results for the Gorazde Canton assembly were not available. In the election for the 50-seat Neretva Canton assembly, HDZ gained 77.14 percent, SDA 16.23 percent and the Joint List 2.2 percent. In the election for the 31-seat Western Herzegovina Canton assembly, HDZ won 91.02 percent, the Croatian Party of Rights (HSP) 6.91 percent, the Croatian Pure Party of Rights 2.3 percent and SDA 0.02 percent (eight voters). In the election for the 45-seat Sarajevo Canton assembly, SDA won 59.47 percent, the Joint List 17.35 percent, the Party for Bosnia-Herzegovina 12.65 percent and HDZ 5.81 percent. In the election for the assembly of the so-called Canton No. 10, including the western municipalities of Grahovo, Drvar, Glamoc and Kupres, HDZ gained 86.3 percent, SDA 8.61 percent and HSP 2.44 percent.
