ZAGREB, 13 Sept (Hina) - The Croatian Health Ministry on Friday
decided to impose a ban on the import and sale of 'Mascarpone'
cheese, a statement from the Health Ministry said. #L#
'According to official information, several dozen cases of
poisoning caused by the bacillus clostridium botulinum discovered
in 'Mascarpone' cheese have been registered in Italy. Since an
unknown quantity of 'Mascarpone' cheese, produced by different
European producers, has arrived in Croatia, partly through import
and partly through individual purchase of our citizens abroad, the
Ministry has decided to completely ban the sale of 'Mascarpone'
cheese.
Border inspections have received an order to prohibit the
import of 'Mascarpone' cheese of all foreign producers, and county
sanitary inspections have been ordered to prohibit the sale of
'Mascarpone' cheese and withdraw all supplies of 'Mascarpone'
cheese from sale, regardless of the country of origin.
The Health Ministry also prohibited the sale of 'Tiramisu'
food product and other products which are made of 'Mascarpone'
cheese.
This would protect Croatian citizens from possible infection
with the bacillus clostridium botulinum, the statement said.
'At the moment, there are no reports on the presence of the
infection in Croatia', the statement said.
