ZAGREB, Sept 4 (Hina) - The visit of a Croatian Parliament
delegation to the Croatian Danubian area which was to take place on
Wednesday under the organization of UNTAES, was postponed due to
bad weather conditions, UN spokesman in Zagreb Marc McEvoy told
Hina. #L#
The fifteen-member delegation headed by the Parliament deputy
chairman Vladimir Seks was supposed to hold a meeting with the
Transitional Administrator General Jacques Klein, UNTAES troops
commander General Schoups and local Serb representatives, and to
visit Vukovar and Ilok.
The meeting with General Klein was scheduled for 10.00 hours
in Vukovar (some 250 kilometres east of Zagreb).
The delegation was supposed to leave by a UN airplane from the
UNTAES headquarters at the Zagreb airport some time before 8.00
hours.
After a fifteen-minute wait in the airplane, the Parliament
representatives were addressed by a UNTAES representative who said
that the flight would have to be postponed for two hours due to fog
at the Osijek airport.
When, after two hours of waiting, the delegation was not
approached by any of the UNTAES representatives, head of the
delegation Vladimir Seks asked for an explanation. He learnt that
the flight had been postponed again and that the plane should take
off around 12.00 hours.
After the news, the delegation decided to drive to Vukovar in
vehicles, and informed UNTAES representatives about their decision.
They, however, informed Seks that the delegation would not
arrive on time for the meeting with General Klein at 10.00 hours
because of the delay in their departure.
The Croatian Parliament delegation decided to organize their
next week's visit to the Croatian Danubian area from Osijek.
There was no political reason for the postponement of this
visit, McEvoy said, adding that the problem was solely of technical
nature.
He said that the meeting would take place next week, but could
not say the exact date when the meeting is to be scheduled.
Deputy head of the Croatian President's Office Vesna Skare
Ozbolt on Wednesday morning contacted General Klein asking for a
reason for the delay.
She told Hina that General Klein had confirmed that the
difficulties were entirely technical, as the airplane would not
have been able to land at the Osijek airport due to fog.
"It was confirmed that the meeting will take place as soon as
possible, probably around September 10," Ozbolt said.
During a telephone conversation with Hina, General Klein's
advisor Mark Baskin expressed regret that the meeting and visit of
the Croatian Parliament delegation to the Croatian Danubian area
had been postponed due to bad weather.
