MOSTAR, August 6 (Hina) - An agreement on the coming into effect of
the European Union Council's project for Mostar, "Joint Action",
demanding the establishment of city administration in the city, was
signed a little after 2 p.m. Tuesday, EU spokesman in Mostar Dragan
Gasic told a special press conference.
The agreement was signed by Western Mostar Mayor Mijo
Brajkovic on the Croat side and Eastern Mostar Mayor Safet Orucevic
on the Bosniac side in the presence of special EU envoy in Mostar
Martin Garrot.
"The European Union is staying in Mostar under the mission of
the special envoy not longer than 31 December this year. During
this time it will help establish and stabilize the new city
administration and its undertaking of all responsibilities for the
fate of this city", Garrot said.
"Even though the final deadline for this agreement has expired
and a legal mechanism for the withdrawal of the EU from Mostar has
been set in motion, I believe that the Presidency of the EU and its
member-states will nevertheless accept the agreement on "Joint
Action" signed today", Garrot said.
